just because you can does not mean you should
Not too long ago, an article in The Wall Street Journal found its way onto my desk. The title of it: “How to Create A Successful Web Site For Nothing (Or Almost Nothing),” and it begins, “Have you got eight hours and $10? Then you can build a Web site for your business.”
My reaction to this article appears as the title of this blog: “Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.”
It may be true that businesses can purchase a domain name, find a hosting company, build a site, sell web banners, optimize the site for search engines, and track the site’s traffic all on their own–but I wouldn’t recommend it.
Here’s why: no matter if you’re spending $10 or $10,000 on a website, you want it to be successful, or you wouldn’t be wasting your time. And the fact is, truly successful websites don’t happen just by following the steps noted above; they evolve from a strategic approach that capitalizes on the strengths of the web and avoids its weaknesses.
Web development companies like ADCO take a strategic approach to every step of building a website, from buying domain names to search engine optimization. In fact, that’s what you’re paying us for–our knowledge and expertise. We know how to make your website a tool and an asset for the growth of your business, and ultimately, that’s what it’s all about.
